Revolving restaurants ? Beautiful 360 degree panoramic views of the surrounding mountain landscapes ? I should coco !
There are only 4 revolving mountain restaurants in the world, and three of them are in Switzerland, so whilst you're there you might as well try one of them...
Probably the most famous mountain top restaurant in the world, thanks to the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service which was filmed here in the 1960's.
Obviously in the 007 movie it was the mountain lair for Telly Savalas' Ernst Stavro Blofeld baddie, but in it's normal, everyday life it serves as the top station to Murren's ski pistes, as well as being home to a revolving restaurant and also a museum dedicated to the Bond film.
The revolving restaurant above Leysin is called "Le Kuklos" and is located at 2048m, opposite the Tours d’Ai, Mayen and Famelon.
The restaurant building is pretty spectacular, being completely covered in glass on the outside. It takes about 90 minutes to revolve the full 360 degrees, and during this time you get views of nearby Lake Geneva and the Swiss Riviera, and if you're lucky with the visibility possibly views of the Matterhorn, Mont-Blanc and Eiger, as well as numerous other local peaks.
Le Kuklos can be reached from Leysin village centre in about ten minutes by the Berneuse cable car gondola.
At 3500m, the Allalin is the world's highest revolving restaurant and a major attraction in the resort of Saas Fee.
The restaurant takes about 60 minutes to rotate 360 degrees, in which time you get the full breathtaking glacial scenery of this beautiful part of Valais.
