Gstaad main street. -
The Swiss Open (currently under the official title of the Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad) is Switzerland's premier tennis tournament and is held annually in the glamorous mountain resort of Gstaad.
The tournament has been running since 1915 and, as part of the sport's main ATP tour, it regularly attracts some of the top names in tennis - it's high-class reputation has seen it tagged as 'The Wimbledon of the Alps' and it brings an even glitzier feel to a resort already well accustomed to a sophisticated atmosphere. However, unlike Wimbledon, the matches are played on clay courts, rather than grass.
The competition is scheduled during the period between the major championships at Wimbledon and the US Open at Flushing Meadow, and it normally falls in the last two weeks of July.
The next Swiss Open Tennis at Gstaad will take place on 22-30 Jul 2017.
