Grimentz ski area. - (c) Sierre-Anniviers Marketing
Grimentz is one of the villages located in the Val d'Anniviers, a valley located in the south of Switzerland, in an area approximately between Zermatt and Crans Montana as the crow flies. You'll often see Val d'Anniviers marketed as a single entity in many holiday and skiing brochures, but it's actually made up of a number of small resorts, such as Grimentz, Zinal, Saint Luc and Chandolin. Grimentz is actually one of the largest of the villages but is still relatively unknown outside of Switzerland.
However, it's unlikely to stay unheard of for long, such is the beauty of the area around Grimentz and the recent investments in the surrounding ski areas, linking the slopes of Grimentz with those of neighbouring Zinal. The current appeal of Grimentz to its regular visitors may well be its quiet slopes and relaxed village atmosphere.
Grimentz is only a small resort, so don't expect masses of bars, hotels and restaurants. The villages dates back over hundreds of years, so there are plenty of classic old chalet-style buildings and raccards knocking around the town. The town is built into the hillside, with the roads winding up into the village, and most of the hotels and amenities located on the Rue du Village.
The table below shows train times from the main cities and transport hubs of Switzerland to Grimentz.
Note: Grimentz has no train station, so the final leg of the journey must be done by bus or taxi from Sierre.
