Taking place over three consecutive weekends each February, the White Turf Races have been held on the frozen St Moritz Lake since 1907.
The event involves horses racing around the track as with 'normal' horse-racing, but the main difference is they are galloping around the course on snow. However, the White Turf Races also include a number of slightly different races, such as the horses pulling around racing sleighs and also the incredibly dramatic skijoring races, where the horses involved don't have jockeys on their back but instead tow around skiers at breakneck speeds! Points are accumulated over the course of the three weekends, and at the end of the event the skier with the most points is crowned "King of the Engadin Valley".
The next White Turf Races at St Moritz will take place on 4/11/18 Feb 2018.
