Anzere is another of those Swiss gems that is relatively unknown outside the country's borders. It is one of the few purpose built mountain resorts in Switzerland, only dating back to the late 1950s and 1960s when the idea for a mountain resort in one of the sunniest parts of Valais was conceived. And you can certainly see why they would build a resort here - nestling gloriously on a sun-soaked ledge at 1500m between Sion and Crans-Montana, with beautiful vistas of the Rhone Valley, it really is the most fantastic of spots to spend some time in, be it in the snows of winter or during the gloriously sunny, long days of summer.
Many Swiss resorts market and pride themselves on their family-friendliness, and Anzere is right up there amongst the best of them. With its pedestrianised centre, quiet image and family-orientated skiing, Anzere is a great choice for skiers or visitors with young children in tow.
Despite Anzere's creation date back in that most architecturally-feared of decades (the 1960s), the village itself is actually pleasant enough. In fact, with a pedestrianised centre, cafes, bars restaurants and shops mainly designed in the traditional Swiss-chalet style, Anzere feels different to some of purpose built French resorts of the same era which were afflicted by the building of some complete and utter carbuncles !
Anzere's pedestrianised centre is known as the 'Place du Village' and includes many of the facilities in the resort, including hotels, bars, clubs, shops, restaurants, indoor and outdoor swimming pools etc.

Note: Anzere has no train station, so the final leg of the journey must be done by bus or taxi from Sion.
