Adelboden might not be quite as famous as some of the other mountain villages in the Bernese Oberland, such as Wengen, Grindelwald and Murren, but it's a great little resort in its own right, and well worth a considering if you're after a quiet family ski area in the winter or a beautiful place to visit in the summer months.
Whilst the scenery might not be quite as impressive as the Eiger-dominated landscapes of that trio of Jungfrau resorts, Adelboden is still surrounded by an impressive array of 3000 metre mountains that would knock the spots off most other resorts.
Adelboden has a fine skiing heritage, with a long history in the sport and a great reputation for family friendly ski slopes. A large percentage of Adelboden's ski slopes are over an altitude of 1500m, and the Tschentenalp and Luegli ski areas are both north facing, so the snow reliability is pretty good. Adelboden is also home to one of ski racings classic annual races - the famous giant slalom.
Adelboden is a traditionally-styled Swiss village, with the classic Swiss chalet look and feel to it. The resort centre of Adelboden is extremely pleasant, with a nice family-friendly feel to it. It's quite small and compact with the long main street that runs through it that is mostly pedestrianized, with a number of archetypal standard tourist souvenir shops adorning it.
The table below shows train times from the main cities and transport hubs of Switzerland to Adelboden.
Note: Adelboden has no train station, so the final leg of the journey must be done by bus or taxi from Frutigen.

Details of annual local events taking place in Adelboden or the surrounding resorts and areas...
Whilst Adelboden doesn't have any really well known annual events of its own, one of the Bernese Oberland's other famous resorts, Wengen, hosts the spectacular Lauberhorn Races every January and are well worth the 50km trip over to see them if you get chance.
